I told my wife that after we get rid of our B6 Passat wagon (AKA Weezy the money pit), we're not buying another European car unless it's got the engine in its ass-end.

She's sort-of OK with this, if it's something !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

But I'd rather have something !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

That's a bummer. Our '08 has been very very low-cost. Just crossed 100K on it. What's been expensive?

Sucks. I find that the germans are either build like a rock, for have problems up the ass. our 2010 A3 TDI is been the former so far.

Electrical goblins and gremlins, CV axle, and it's burning oil and water with 107k miles. Basically a poorly maintained car that we overpaid for.

Oh that stinks. We've owned ours since new and I've maintained it, and haven't had any issues. I'm trying to decide if I should let the dealership do the timing belt and other 100K mile service (gearbox oil, flush/change coolant, etc) items or if I should tackle them at home. I do the rest of my automotive work, and there's some pride to doing it all myself. There are so many writeups on these drivetrains that there really isn't much to get excited about. Anytime I've ever had an issue, there's been a writeup for it on passat world or vortex... And the intake manifold flapper issue (common problem for 2.0 motors) was covered by the dealer under an extended service bulletin even though we were years beyond our warranty and at 90K miles. I pretty much called them on a whim before ordering the new parts myself, and they said it was covered and to bring it in!

Overall I've had an excellent experience with this car!
